Deleting or deactivating your StudyStream account

Last updated on Jul 14, 2026

If you no longer want to use StudyStream, you have two options — and you can do both yourself in the app. They're different, so please choose the one that fits you:

  • Deactivate (temporary) — pauses your account. Your data is kept and you can come back anytime.

  • Delete (permanent) — permanently wipes your account and data. This cannot be undone.

Both options are in the same place: click your profile picture (top-right corner) → Account settings → scroll to the bottom.

Deactivate your account (temporary)

Deactivating your account disables your access to StudyStream, makes your profile inaccessible to others, and removes your name and photo from public lists. Your data is kept, so you can reactivate later.

  1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → Account settings.

  2. Scroll to the bottom to "Deactivate your account".

  3. Click "I want to deactivate my account" and confirm.

To come back, simply log in again — your account and data will be restored.

Delete your account (permanent)

Deleting your account wipes all of your personal data from our systems. You'll lose your account history, and other users won't be able to find or contact you. Messages you've previously sent become read-only, and any video stats you accumulated become anonymous (except for Zoom data from before 1 March 2022, or thereafter if you connected your Zoom account). This action is irreversible.

  1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → Account settings.

  2. Scroll to the bottom to "Delete your account".

  3. Click "I want to delete my account" and confirm.

Not sure which one to choose?

  • Choose Deactivate if you might return — everything is saved and you can reactivate by logging back in.

  • Choose Delete only if you want your data permanently removed. It cannot be reversed, and your account, streak, stats, and history cannot be recovered.

Can I get my account back?

  • Deactivated accounts: yes — just log back in.

  • Deleted accounts: no. Deletion is permanent and your data cannot be restored.
