Deleting or deactivating your account

If you no longer want to use StudyStream, you have two options — and you can do both yourself in the app. They're different, so please choose the one that fits you: - Deactivate (temporary) — pauses your account. Your data is kept and you can come back anytime. - Delete (permanent) — permanently wipes your account and data. This cannot be undone. You'll find both options in your account settings. The exact steps differ slightly between the web and mobile apps — follow the set that matches your device below. Deactivate your account (temporary) Deactivating your account disables your access to StudyStream, makes your profile inaccessible to others, and removes your name and photo from public lists. Your data is kept, so you can reactivate later. On the web If you're using the web app in a browser: 1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → Account settings. 2. Scroll to the bottom to "Deactivate your account". 3. Click "I want to deactivate my account" and confirm. On the mobile app (iOS & Android) If you're using the StudyStream mobile app on your phone: 1. Tap your profile picture (top-left) → Settings. 2. Under "Account", tap "Manage account". 3. Under "Deactivate your account", tap "Deactivate" and confirm. To come back, simply log in again — your account and data will be restored. Heads up: deactivating doesn't pause your streak — days away count as missed days (your streak freezes get used up, then the streak resets). Delete your account (permanent) Deleting your account wipes all of your personal data from our systems. You'll lose your account history, and other users won't be able to find or contact you. If you have an active subscription, cancel its renewal first — deletion is blocked while auto-renewal is on, and deleting your account does not undo a renewal that has already been charged. Messages you've previously sent become read-only, and any video stats you accumulated become anonymous (except for Zoom data from before 1 March 2022, or thereafter if you connected your Zoom account). This action is irreversible. On the web If you're using the web app in a browser: 1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → Account settings. 2. Scroll to the bottom to "Delete your account". 3. Click "I want to delete my account" and confirm. On the mobile app (iOS & Android) If you're using the StudyStream mobile app on your phone: 1. Tap your profile picture (top-left) → Settings. 2. Under "Account", tap "Manage account". 3. Under "Delete your account", tap "Delete" and confirm. Not sure which one to choose? - Choose Deactivate if you might return — everything is saved and you can reactivate by logging back in. - Choose Delete only if you want your data permanently removed. It cannot be reversed, and your account, streak, stats, and history cannot be recovered. Can I get my account back? - Deactivated accounts: yes — just log back in. - Deleted accounts: no. Deletion is permanent and your data cannot be restored. You're welcome to sign up again with the same email address after deleting. If registration shows "you might have already registered", an account with that email still exists — try logging in or resetting the password instead. If deletion failed with an error, start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app (no login needed).

Recovering or reactivating your account

Can't get into your StudyStream account, or want it back? What to do depends on what happened — find your situation below. I deactivated my account and want to come back If you deactivated your account yourself, it's easy: just log back in with the same email or login method (Google, Facebook, or Apple) you used before. Your account and data are restored automatically. (See: Deleting or deactivating your account.) My account was deactivated or blocked by StudyStream If you try to log in and see a message that your account has been deactivated or blocked, email our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live from the email linked to your account, and we'll look into it for you. I deleted my account — can I get it back? Unfortunately, no. Deleting your account permanently wipes your data from our systems, and it can't be restored — this includes your streak, stats, history, and friends. If you'd like to use StudyStream again, you're welcome to create a new account, but it will start fresh. For next time: if you ever want a break without losing everything, use Deactivate instead of Delete — deactivation is reversible and keeps all your data, and you come back just by logging in again. See Deleting or deactivating your account. I was banned or removed from a room If you believe you were banned or removed by mistake, you can appeal. Email our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live from the email linked to your account, with your display name and a short description of what happened in your own words, plus any evidence. Appeals are reviewed after a 7-day waiting period from the ban — the simplest route is replying directly to the ban notice email. Don't create a new account in the meantime — that counts as ban evasion (the new account gets suspended too) and can hurt your appeal. More details: Reporting users and appealing bans. I can't log in (forgot my password or email) - Forgot your password? Use "Forgot password" on the login screen to reset it. - Lost access to the Google or Apple account you signed up with? That login is your StudyStream account — we can't merge accounts or move data (including streaks) to a new one, so recover the provider account if at all possible. If your email account was compromised, start a chat with us: we can verify your identity with security questions and secure the account. - Not sure which email your account uses? Start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app (no login needed) and we'll help you locate your account. Still stuck? Start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app (no login needed) and we'll help you get back in.

Trouble logging in?

Most login problems come down to one of five things. Find yours below. I forgot my password Use the reset link on the login screen: On the web If you're using the web app in a browser: 1. Go to app.studystream.live and open Log in. 2. Click "Forgot Password?" below the password field. 3. Enter your email and click "Send Reset Link". 4. Open the email and follow the link to set a new password. On the mobile app (iOS & Android) If you're using the StudyStream mobile app on your phone: 1. On the login screen, tap "Email", then "Forgotten password?" below the password field. 2. This opens the same reset flow — enter your email and follow the emailed link. A few things to know: - Reset links are valid for 24 hours and can only be used once. - You can request up to 3 reset emails per 24 hours. - No email? Check your Spam or Junk folder, and make sure you entered the address you registered with. - For your security, our team can never tell you your password or send it to you — the reset link is the only way. New passwords must be at least 8 characters and contain at least 3 of the following: upper case (A-Z), lower case (a-z), number (0-9), special character (e.g. !@#$%^&*). I signed up with Google, Facebook or Apple If you registered using a social login, your account has no password — just log in with the same button you used before (Google, Facebook, or Apple). Not sure which one you used? Try the social login for the email address your StudyStream emails arrive at. Logging in with a social provider that uses the same email address as your account will sign you into that same account. My verification code never arrived New accounts need to verify their email with a 6-digit code. - Check your Spam or Junk folder — verification emails often land there. - Each code is valid for 15 minutes. If it expired, tap "Resend" to get a new one (up to 3 resends per 24 hours). - Typo in your email? Use "Change Email" on the verification screen to correct it and get a new code. - If you see "Please confirm your email address in order to log in", complete this verification first. "Maximum number of unsuccessful login attempts" After 10 failed attempts, login is locked for 24 hours. You don't have to wait: resetting your password immediately unlocks your account — use "Forgot Password?" as described above. My account is deactivated, blocked or deleted - "Your account has been temporarily deactivated" — if you deactivated it yourself, just log in again; it reactivates automatically. See: Recovering or reactivating your account. - "Your account has been temporarily locked until you turn 16" — see: Age requirement: why your account was locked. - "Your account has been deactivated / banned" (by StudyStream) — email our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live from the email linked to your account. - "Your account has been deleted" — deleted accounts cannot be recovered or logged into. You're welcome to create a new account. Think someone else is using your account? Change your password immediately — on the web: profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings" → "Change password". Any other device is signed out within about a minute of the change. Then review your Privacy settings (who can message you, who can add you to group chats), and start a chat with us if anything on the account looks changed. One more registration note: we don't accept disposable or relay email addresses (e.g. duck.com, SimpleLogin aliases). If your account used one and you're locked out, start a chat with us and have a personal email address ready. Still stuck? Start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app (no login needed). To help us find the problem quickly, include: - the email address of your account, - a screenshot of the error you see, - your device and browser (or app version), and the country you're logging in from.

Changing your password or email address

Change your password On the web If you're using the web app in a browser: 1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings". 2. Click "Change password". 3. Enter your new password twice, then your current password to confirm, and click "Change". Passwords must be at least 8 characters and contain at least 3 of the following: upper case (A-Z), lower case (a-z), number (0-9), special character (e.g. !@#$%^&*). Changing your password also signs out any other device using your account within about a minute — useful if you think someone else has access. On the mobile app (iOS & Android) Password changes aren't available in the mobile app — log in at app.studystream.live in a browser and follow the web steps above. Forgot your current password? Use "Forgot Password?" on the login screen instead — see: Trouble logging in? If you use Google, Facebook or Apple to log in Social-login accounts don't have a StudyStream password — your login is managed by Google, Facebook, or Apple, so there's nothing to change on our side. Enable two-factor authentication (recommended) On the web, click your profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings" → "Two-factor authentication". Use an app such as Authy, 1Password, or Google Authenticator: scan the QR code, enter the 6-digit code, and save your recovery codes somewhere safe — each recovery code can be used once if you lose access to your authenticator app. Think someone else has access to your account? 1. Change your password right away using the web steps above — this also signs every other device out of your account within about a minute, so whoever got in is locked out. 2. Review your privacy settings — on the web: click your profile picture (top-right) → "Privacy settings" — and check nothing was changed. 3. Enable two-factor authentication (see above) so a password alone isn't enough to get in. If you can't log in anymore, reset your password from the login screen with "Forgot Password?" (see: Trouble logging in?), or start a chat with us at app.studystream.live (no login needed). Change the email address on your account If you're still completing email verification, you can change the address yourself: on the verification screen, choose "Change email", enter the new address, and verify it with the new code. After that, email changes are handled by our support team. Start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app: - Logged in? Your account is verified automatically — just tell us the new email address you'd like to use. - Can't log in? Start the chat anyway — it works without logging in. To confirm it's you, include your first name, last name, and display name, the email address currently on the account, and the new address you'd like to use. Once verified, we'll update it and let you know. Lost access to your old email address? We can still help — start a chat with us at app.studystream.live or in the StudyStream app with the details above. If we can't verify you from those, we may ask for additional proof that the account is yours.

Age requirement: why your account was locked

To use StudyStream you must be 16 or older. If the date of birth on an account shows an age under 16 — whether it was entered at signup or changed later — the account is automatically locked, and you'll see a message like "Your account has been temporarily locked until you turn 16." I entered my date of birth wrong It happens a lot — a slip in the year, or a test value entered quickly. Because the lock is about your age, we need some verification before we can correct it. Email our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live from the email linked to your account with: - The correct date of birth, and - Something that indicates your age — for example a screenshot of a school/university document showing your first name and year of birth. Please censor all other personal information before sending; that's all we need. Once verified, the team will correct your date of birth and unlock the account. If the locked account has an active subscription, mention it — locked accounts can't reach the cancel button, and we'll stop the billing for you (Google Play subscriptions you can always cancel yourself in the Play Store). I'm under 16 We're sorry — StudyStream isn't available to you just yet. Your account and data stay safe, and it will unlock automatically when the date of birth on the account reaches 16: just log in again on or after that day. We'd love to see you then! Why so strict? Deliberately entering a false date of birth to bypass the age check is against our Terms of Service, and the lock protects both younger visitors and our community. The moderation team reviews every appeal individually. Tips to avoid this - Double-check your date of birth at signup — it's confirmed with a dialog for exactly this reason. - A date of birth can't be changed in the app once it's set — if yours is wrong, contact the moderation team as described above.

Managing email and push notifications

Stop the daily "New messages from…" email If you get a daily email titled "📄 New messages from N conversations on StudyStream", that's the daily digest for missed messages. Two ways to turn it off: - From the email itself: click the unsubscribe link at the bottom — no login needed. - On the web: click your profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings" → under "Email communication", untick "Receive daily email digest for missed messages". - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Communication preferences" → untick "Receive daily digest for missed messages". Replying to the digest email won't deliver your reply to the person who messaged you — to reply, open the conversation in the app. Push notifications (mobile) You can choose exactly which pushes you get: - On the web: profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings" → "Mobile notifications". - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Communication preferences" → "Notifications". Available toggles: - Chat messages - Someone has followed you - Newsfeed reactions - Newsfeed comments - Losing your streak soon (a reminder before your streak day runs out) - Someone you pinned previously is now streaming To silence all push notifications from StudyStream, use your phone's system settings (iOS: Settings → Notifications → StudyStream; Android: Settings → Apps → StudyStream → Notifications). Notification sounds (web) On the web, click your profile picture (top-right) → "Account settings" → "Notification sound" to toggle the in-app sound for new messages.

Editing your profile and account details

Display name Your display name is what others see in rooms and on your profile. On the web 1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → "Profile settings". 2. Edit "Display name" and click "Save". On the mobile app (iOS & Android) 1. Tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Profile" → "Edit Profile". 2. Tap "Identity", edit "Display name", and "Save". Rules to know: - Display names must be unique, under 30 characters, with at least 3 letters and 5 characters total. - You can change it up to 2 times per 24 hours — if you hit the limit, wait a day and try again. Profile picture, cover photo, bio, interests - On the web: open your profile (profile picture → "View profile") and click your avatar or cover image to upload a new one (PNG/JPEG). Your bio is edited from the profile page too (max 250 characters — emojis may count as multiple characters). - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Profile" → "Edit Profile" → "Profile Picture", "Cover Photo", "Information" (area of study, bio, interests), "Social links". First name, last name, date of birth - On the web: click your profile picture (top-right) → "Profile settings" — first name, last name, pronouns, country, gender and more. - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Personal details". About the date of birth: it can only be set once — entering a date that makes you under 16 locks the account automatically, and later corrections are handled by our moderation team. See: Age requirement: why your account was locked. Your role (Uni student / Pre-uni student / Professional) Your role determines who you can interact with on the platform — for safety, Professionals and Pre-Uni students can't message each other directly, so pick the role that genuinely matches you. You can only change it yourself once: - On the web: profile picture → "Account settings" → "Role". - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Your role". Already used your one change? Contact our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live and they can update it for you. Time zone Your time zone affects when your streak day rolls over. On the web: profile picture → "Profile settings" → "Time zone". You can change it once every 7 days. (Not available in the mobile app.) Privacy settings Control who can message you, add you to group chats, pin you in rooms, and who sees your age, pronouns, country, interests, and more: - On the web: profile picture → "Privacy settings". - On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Privacy settings" (tabs: Messaging, Profile, Other). Favourites, messages, and a few quirks - Favourites are capped per plan (20 on Free, 40 on Basic, 80 on Premium) — and the favourites list shows only the ones currently online, so it can look shorter than your real total. If you can't add anyone new, remove some entries first. - Deleting a chat is permanent — there's no confirmation on mobile swipe-delete and no way to restore a deleted conversation. - Country can't be cleared once set — you can hide it via Privacy settings ("only me") instead. - Social links in your bio are capped at 50 characters — use the platform's short URL if your profile link is longer. - The app is currently English-only — there's no language setting. Unblock a user On the web 1. Click your profile picture (top-right) → "View profile". 2. Click "Manage followers" under your bio and open the "Blocked users" tab. (The "⋯" menu on your profile also has a "Blocked users" shortcut that opens the same list.) 3. Find the person in the list and unblock them. - On the mobile app: there's no blocked-users list, but you can unblock in two ways — open the person's profile and choose "Unblock" from its menu, or open your direct-message conversation with them and choose "Unblock" from the chat menu. Blocked users don't show up in search, so if you have no DM thread and can't reach their profile, use the list on the web.
