Display name
Your display name is what others see in rooms and on your profile.
On the web
- Click your profile picture (top-right) → "Profile settings".
- Edit "Display name" and click "Save".
On the mobile app (iOS & Android)
- Tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Profile" → "Edit Profile".
- Tap "Identity", edit "Display name", and "Save".
Rules to know:
- Display names must be unique, under 30 characters, with at least 3 letters and 5 characters total.
- You can change it up to 2 times per 24 hours — if you hit the limit, wait a day and try again.
Profile picture, cover photo, bio, interests
- On the web: open your profile (profile picture → "View profile") and click your avatar or cover image to upload a new one (PNG/JPEG). Your bio is edited from the profile page too (max 250 characters — emojis may count as multiple characters).
- On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Profile" → "Edit Profile" → "Profile Picture", "Cover Photo", "Information" (area of study, bio, interests), "Social links".
First name, last name, date of birth
- On the web: click your profile picture (top-right) → "Profile settings" — first name, last name, pronouns, country, gender and more.
- On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Personal details".
About the date of birth: it can only be set once — entering a date that makes you under 16 locks the account automatically, and later corrections are handled by our moderation team. See: Age requirement: why your account was locked.
Your role (Uni student / Pre-uni student / Professional)
Your role determines who you can interact with on the platform — for safety, Professionals and Pre-Uni students can't message each other directly, so pick the role that genuinely matches you. You can only change it yourself once:
- On the web: profile picture → "Account settings" → "Role".
- On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Your role".
Already used your one change? Contact our moderation team at webapp.reporting@studystream.live and they can update it for you.
Time zone
Your time zone affects when your streak day rolls over. On the web: profile picture → "Profile settings" → "Time zone". You can change it once every 7 days. (Not available in the mobile app.)
Privacy settings
Control who can message you, add you to group chats, pin you in rooms, and who sees your age, pronouns, country, interests, and more:
- On the web: profile picture → "Privacy settings".
- On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) → "Settings" → "Privacy settings" (tabs: Messaging, Profile, Other).
Favourites, messages, and a few quirks
- Favourites are capped per plan (20 on Free, 40 on Basic, 80 on Premium) — and the favourites list shows only the ones currently online, so it can look shorter than your real total. If you can't add anyone new, remove some entries first.
- Deleting a chat is permanent — there's no confirmation on mobile swipe-delete and no way to restore a deleted conversation.
- Country can't be cleared once set — you can hide it via Privacy settings ("only me") instead.
- Social links in your bio are capped at 50 characters — use the platform's short URL if your profile link is longer.
- The app is currently English-only — there's no language setting.
Unblock a user
On the web
- Click your profile picture (top-right) → "View profile".
- Click "Manage followers" under your bio and open the "Blocked users" tab. (The "⋯" menu on your profile also has a "Blocked users" shortcut that opens the same list.)
- Find the person in the list and unblock them.
- On the mobile app: there's no blocked-users list, but you can unblock in two ways — open the person's profile and choose "Unblock" from its menu, or open your direct-message conversation with them and choose "Unblock" from the chat menu. Blocked users don't show up in search, so if you have no DM thread and can't reach their profile, use the list on the web.
