Managing email and push notifications

Stop the daily "New messages from…" email

If you get a daily email titled "πŸ“„ New messages from N conversations on StudyStream", that's the daily digest for missed messages. Two ways to turn it off:

  • From the email itself: click the unsubscribe link at the bottom β€” no login needed.
  • On the web: click your profile picture (top-right) β†’ "Account settings" β†’ under "Email communication", untick "Receive daily email digest for missed messages".
  • On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) β†’ "Settings" β†’ "Communication preferences" β†’ untick "Receive daily digest for missed messages".

Replying to the digest email won't deliver your reply to the person who messaged you β€” to reply, open the conversation in the app.

Push notifications (mobile)

You can choose exactly which pushes you get:

  • On the web: profile picture (top-right) β†’ "Account settings" β†’ "Mobile notifications".
  • On the mobile app: tap your profile picture (top-left) β†’ "Settings" β†’ "Communication preferences" β†’ "Notifications".

Available toggles:

  • Chat messages
  • Someone has followed you
  • Newsfeed reactions
  • Newsfeed comments
  • Losing your streak soon (a reminder before your streak day runs out)
  • Someone you pinned previously is now streaming

To silence all push notifications from StudyStream, use your phone's system settings (iOS: Settings β†’ Notifications β†’ StudyStream; Android: Settings β†’ Apps β†’ StudyStream β†’ Notifications).

The notification bell (web)

The bell at the top-right of the website collects activity on your posts and profile: comments, reactions and tags on your feed posts, reactions to your tile messages, pin reasons and replies to them, and new followers. Chat messages aren't in the bell; they show on the Chats icon and the Conversations badge instead. Closing the panel marks what you've seen as read. "Mute for 1 day" only hides the unread badge for 24 hours; it doesn't stop anything else. The app has no bell; it gets push notifications instead (above).

Quiet Mode (web)

The crossed-out bell next to the Tasks icon is Quiet Mode: pick 30m, 1h, 2h, 6h or 12h and new chat messages won't pop up or make a sound for that long. The same menu has "Enable notifications now" to end it early. Details in Focus rooms: everything you can do.

Notification sounds (web)

On the web, click your profile picture (top-right) β†’ "Account settings" β†’ "Notification sound" to toggle the in-app sound for new messages.
